- expressive: the face of Lillian Gish, who debuted on stage at
- five and went on to become the pre-eminent actress of pretalkie
- Hollywood, best remembered for her work in such D.W. Griffith
- classics as Intolerance and Way Down East. Gish also triumphed
- in theater and talking motion pictures as recently as the 1980s
- (Sweet Liberty and The Whales of August).
